Shibori
SHIBORI DYE
しぼり/絞り
I started running these workshops about 10 years ago and have fallen completely in love with the process.
“Shibori” is a 1300 year-old Japanese dyeing technique that involves folding, twisting, clamping and binding natural fabrics (cotton, silk, linen) and flash dyeing them with indigo. Within minutes amazing, organic, intricate, beautiful and unique patterns are created. It’s a magical experience.
I’m currently booking a Summer 2027 workshop tour. An event will require an outdoor space and room for folding tables, dye vats and clothes lines. They most often are held at local farms, garden clubs, community centers and peoples backyards. They can be collaborative and have a thematic focus.
All necessary materials and equipment are provided, along with some pieces to dye. Participants bring personal clothing items and fabrics from home to dye (manageable pieces that can fit into a 5 gallon bucket… shirts, towels, scarves, banners, etc). It’s a great way to up-cycle and transform worn items into something new!
I’m also developing and creating my own new original Shibori pieces that I offer for purchase.
I’d love to bring a Japanese Shibori and Indigo Dye workshop to your community!
