i love to paint on it and i love to sew it.
This pencil case project is a perfect combination of both.
I have made this several times before, using different fabric and felt
but this time with the natural canvas and the vibrant paint and the way it rolls right up for easy traveling for small hands it just works. LOVE.
…and by the way, colored pencils are from heaven.
this is how it goes.. but you can switch things up if you’d like!
I  pre-cut the canvas into a shape like this,
this is actually the backside of the case facing down.
Flip over and fold up the piece that will become the sleeve for the pencils. Measure the distance between slots, I used 1″ , you want the pencil snuggle into the slot but not so tight you can’t get it out.
you get the picture..
I sewed the left edge before adding my tie.. a 2″ cotton weave,
you could also use ribbon, fabric strip, leather lacing or shoestring.
We painted with liquid watercolor paint mixed with a fabric medium that i love love LOVE.
                                                              Look at that amazing color!
We made this batch of pencil cases at the studio last spring.. I wanted to be sure all the children at Beehive had a set of colored pencils in their back pocket for summer travels.
